Common questions

Before you enquire

Why seek an autism assessment as an adult?+

Many adults, particularly women and high-masking adults, reach adulthood without assessment. An assessment can clarify longstanding experiences and, where criteria are met, provide a diagnosis and evidence that may support requests for workplace, study or NDIS adjustments. Decisions about access and supports rest with the relevant organisations.

What does the assessment involve?+

A structured clinical interview, a detailed developmental history, behavioural observation, validated questionnaires, and where possible collateral information from someone who has known you a long time.

How long does it take?+

Typically 2 to 3 clinical sessions plus questionnaires completed beforehand. The written report is generally ready within 2 to 4 weeks after the assessment is complete and required information has been received.

Do you provide reports for legal matters?+

No. Wiser Minds does not provide medico-legal assessments or reports for court, insurance disputes, or other legal proceedings. Assessment reports are prepared for clinical, educational, workplace, and NDIS purposes.

Can autism and ADHD be assessed together?+

Yes. They frequently co-occur and the assessments share components, so a combined assessment is often the most efficient and informative option. We can discuss this in the free consultation.

Will the report guarantee NDIS funding or other supports?+

No. The report documents what the assessment found, including a diagnosis where criteria are met and how autism affects day-to-day functioning. Decisions about access, funding and adjustments rest with the relevant organisations. The report remains transparent about its evidence and limitations.
